Host a Friday night dinner (or a Saturday morning Shabbrunch!) and receive reimbursement for food ($10 per guest), ritual items, and empowering mentorship sessions with jU staff where we can go over guest lists, menu planning, and much more.

High Holidays

In 2014, jU offered Host-at-Home High Holidays. In their dorms and apartments, during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, over 300 UChicago students created a variety of personal, thoughtful and creative ways to mark the High Holidays. We surveyed our student hosts, and 100% of the respondents said they would not have hosted a High Holidays meal without the support provided by this initiative, which connected them with financial support, ritual items and consulting.

Through our Host-at-Home Seder program, we give student hosts the opportunity to plan and host their own Seders, from the menu to the Haggadah to the guests. jU provides reimbursement for food and printing, along with ritual items like our special UChicago-themed Seder plate. We also host Seder planning workshops, and jU staff members make themselves available to students to provide guidance throughout the process.

2015 was the Seder program's second successful run -- more than 500 students have attended jU-sponsored Seders during the past 2 years!
